Elmwood Modena 90 Question

Just got at an M90 from McTallica1 (great transaction btw) and I have a question. I pretty much understand all the controls, except for the the master volume switch on the footswitch. I can see that the amp gets louder when engaged, but what it it doing exactly? It's not like it's engaging the 1st master since it is already engaged when the switch is off. Is it just a boost that affects only master 1?

Amp sounds great! I'm using it with greenbacks, but I am in the process of looking for a V30 loaded or empty cab. Should I go with a closed or semi opened back cab?

Thanks. I've been on that site about 15 times and every time I go straight for the clips. Should have checked that.
