Well that does it. Music is dead and so is Elvis.

Thanks for sharing this, I must go throw up now.

Doesn't appeal to me, but struggling to get my outrage gear engaged. It's a bunch of modern musicians playing songs by an old musician, nobody's going to get hurt.

I saw the actual 68 Comeback Special a few months back at the cinema, such a great show. Bonus points for the intro segment in which Precilla and the director discuss how contemporary Elvis's outfits look in it, presumably because Precilla and the director live in an alternative universe where everyone dresses like Roger Moore era James Bond characters. But the two performences in the ring setting were spellbinding.

    I agree with OP.

Saw a 2 part documentary about Elvis on HBO just recently. Really great. So much I didn't know about him...and how prolific he was as a performer.

I love Fogerty, and am rather disappointed he is participating in this mess.

I just saw this too, but not entirety. Seems really well done

I caught a portion stating that Elvis ( in early '70's) say 'he really wanted to do a World Tour...', but Col.Tom Parker would not allow it as Parker was afraid that if he ( Parker) left the US, that he would not be able to get back in, because he was NOT a US citizen! ( Where was he from?)

So they did the Aloha Hawaii Show and it was broadcast all around the world.

My brother is a serious Elvis fan, and collects records and videos and stuff.

He has a video of the rehearsals for the 68' Comeback Special. In it, there's a very stylized dance scene with a 1890's style brothel.

Music is playing and Elvis strides through the swinging doors of the saloon, and the first thing he has to do is kiss this beautiful girl dressed up in period costume and walk on past her.

They run the take over and over and by about the 5th take, he really plants a major kiss on this gorgeous girl and she totally loses it. She forgets her role as a dancer and wraps her arm around him and she dives in full force. He smiles and backs off a bit and says (as only Elvis could..) "Cool down baby..."

I wish I could have that effect on women!

Parker was native to the Netherlands---his real name was Andreas Cornelis van Kuijk. And if Parker had had his way, the 1968 comeback special would have been a hokey gooey Christmas special that would have buried Elvis Presley's reputation even further than his dreck movies did.

I play old Country music ( and Elvis songs) with a singer who was an Elvis impersonator ( long before I met him),
and he's always educating me about how serious Elvis was about his singing, AND being taken seriously about this; as he was such a big pop Icon/ really handsome too- it was an obstacle to being taken seriously by many, including his inner circle/mgr.

His Gospel recordings ( though not quite my thing) really are amazing, beautiful.

One of the more tragic elements of his passing is that we missed out on decades of great covers.
