It is a tweed Deluxe clone I had modded for EL-34's. The PJ seemed to break up to quickly and be a little bright. I guess I am looking for more complexity and character, if that makes sense...Originally posted by el34power
What's wrong/what are you looking for tonewise. What amp?

If you have not tried a Wizard yet, I would go with that. It is my favorite new speaker of all time!!! They are great for everything I've tried them with. Or, for complexity maybe a Red Fang for its " blue " like qualities.
FWIW, i just put a Red Fang in a Dr Z Mazarati (30W) and it worked out fabulously...and, i took it out this past sunday evening to a loud jam and rocked the bejesus out of it with no problems....no wolf-tones, no farting and the low-end held together nicely...tone to die for....Originally posted by jpagey
The Red Fang doesn't have enough power. The Tonker and Governor look like the best choices...

While the Red Fang may be great, it also maybe too similar in basic tonal shape to the Private Jack for you. Look at Eminence's comparison chart of them:

Agree 100%, love the TH!Originally posted by ultrevex
I recently got a Texas Heat and think it might pair well with that amp. It's not mega-efficient, which I like. It's got a very smooth high end and likes overdrive tones. I was surprised how good it sounded with my Vox/Matchless homebrew 15 watter, really reproduced that high end chime nicely. It might pair real well with a tweed deluxe using el-34's.
good luck
