Deep in a Cobalt mine, far from rescue.
And you can rest assured that modders are this very moment figuring out how to improve it 150%.

I've seen the guts. It should be as easy to deal with as the Valve Jr. was. And I don't know the details, but there has already been some discussion on how to improve the reverb with a new tank or something.

I'm going to install one of these and give it a try. It's the same reverb tank as used in the Blues Jr. It's also just short enough to fit in the Epi VSr. Head cab.

I eagerly await your report. How much does it cost?

Anyone try different speakers and tubes yet? I've tried a few speakers in my combo and so far I like the Weber Blue Dog Ceramic best. I've also tried the Eminence Legend 1258, Legend Modeling 12, Lady Luck (stock) and Celestion Vintage 30. I thought the 1258 would work best giving it a Fender tone with the 6V6 tubes, but this amp is kind of bright and I think both of the Celestions actually work best. I think a C-Rex might be nice in this amp?

I brought my Sr. head along with a 1980's Mesa/Boogie 1-12 cab to a blues jam last night. The cabinet has a black widow speaker in it. That combination rang like a friggin' bell! It's the best sound -- period -- I've ever gotten from one of my own amps. I plugged my guitar straight into the amp, too. No effects. The guitar is a modified Ibanez AS103 (335 style semi) that has an onboard EQ and master volume. I loved it.

I swapped in an Accutronics reverb and it sounds fantastic. Still loving this amp more than any I've ever owned. (Note: Not an amp collector, so I've never owned a Bogner, /13, Matchless, or whatever.)

They may be good amp, but can't be found. I guess once again Epiphone is unable to ship them. I was going to buy one but because of continued delays, now I won't.

    The Accutronics Type 8:

    http://www.accutronicsreverb.com/Type8.htm

I ordered mine from Antique Music Supply. Follow the link there from the "Ordering" button on the page above. Once on the Antique site, use the navigation to go to Reverb Tanks, then Accutronics, then Type 8. There are a bunch there to choose from. I ordered the one with part number:

    P-R8DB2C1C REVERB TANK, ACCUTRONICS

And it works fine. I'm not a sophisticated amp guy, so I don't know if the specs on any of the other Type 8 units would be different or better/worse.

Old thread but was wondering if anyone had picked one up recently.
