Hey guys, I am looking to get an Eric Johnson Strat, however I see that there are used ones for $1100 or so. These are from 2002, 2008 etc. My question is, has anything changed to the guitar that would constitute buying a new one? I.e electronics, neck shape, frets etc? I played a new on at GC and loved it.. but $1899 is a little too much for me!

I believe they have remained the same throughout the years. Pick one you like and go.

Initial maple board was released in 2005. Bound rosewood board was released in 2009. Neither spec has changed since their initial release.

Not to derail, but having just played the new EJ thin line, that’s where my vote goes. Incredible sounding guitar

I've always felt the EJ Strat was higher quality than a normal American Strat. The SRV too.

I don't understand why it never had a Deluxe Contoured Heel.
Go to all that trouble to upgrade a guitar and leave that feature out while charging more money for it...

I have an older one. There is something better about the first ones but I can't remember. Then there is the stiffness thing, I put 9's on, no issue An older one with the case, as high as $1350
