I've read tons of posts about the 339 and one thing that comes up often is the cramped access to the upper frets. How does it compare to a Les Paul in this respect? I can comfortably deal with the Paul's neck/body joint and cutaway. Is the 339's that much more restrictive? I would love to try one out for myself but the stores in my area don't have them so I really appreciate any input about this.

    Thanks!

I have a 359--upgraded version of the 339--to me much easier than my les paul--I have the 30/60 neck not sure how the 50 neck profile is

I've owned a couple of 339s and that was one of the reasons I no longer own them. I have big hands and couldn't get to the last few frets without the back of my hand hitting the horn. I have no issues with this on my R9 or 335.

Same here...MUCH more restrictive than a Les Paul, IMO. I actually replaced my 339 with an R6.

If I get another semi-hollow, it will be a 335 or similar guitar with better access.

I think the designers at Gibson should redesign the upper access on those guitars!
But hey, I guess there's no money above the 3rd fret,LOL!

It is non-existant meaning there is none...it's an issue if you need to go there...

I rarely if ever feel the need to go there on any guitar so it is a non-issue for me...

you have to plan ahead if you're going up there. everything else about the guitar is wonderful so i can live with that.

I bought a 339 when they came out in '07. Returned it due to the lack of access to the upper 3 frets.

Well, last year I was gasing for one as they are killer guitars.
So, I bought a used '07 in Cherry with the 30/60 neck.

    I luv it.
I just look at it as 19 fret guitar.

BTW, I've never had an issue with upper fret access of a LP.
