Hello all, this is my first post here!

Well, lately I've been considering getting a new amp. I'm looking for glassy cleans and liquidy and spongy overdrive/crunch. Perhaps the best example of the tone I'm looking for is David Gilmour's tone from the Delicate Sound of Thunder Album, or the Pulse album, both of which are live albums. I'm aware that he uses Hiwatt amps, but I don't need tons of headroom and power; in fact I'm looking for a low wattish head or combo.

Another similar example of the tone in my head is the song Tender Surrender by Vai: glassy cleans and soaring leads. I don't know what amp he used here (probably many), but I've been told that most probably it's something Bogner. Would the Bogner Metropolis take me into this territory?

Another possible amp would be the Cornford Harlequin, but I'm not aware of it's tonal character.
Any more amp recommendations? It would help a great deal if the amp manufacturer were European, since I'd rather avoid shipping from the US, and then I'd have to pay another 18% VAT on whatever I import if it's outside the EU...Eu
    So the criteria are:
    - Low watt
    - Glassy cleans
    - liquid and smooth lead/crunch
    - Preferably European made

    Thanks for the help!

Your description of what you're looking for could be satisfied by Matamp. Look at a 1224, for example.

You are correct, they have the custom 20 head that is a 20watt el84 amp. I'd like to consider some alternatives however.

I have had a Cornford Harlequin for several years now. The sound clips on their website are accurate repesentations of the tones you can get out of this amp.

Very nice bluesy tones. I've been experimenting with a lot of pedals lately for higher gain nu-metal tones just for kicks and the Harlequin takes all of them exceptionally well.

    Good luck!

Hiwatt has a 7 watter that seems to mostly be a secret for some reason. perhaps they have not worked the bugs out yet. They brought one to the summer NAMM but never plugged it in. It was very cool looking, and not tiny, nor cheap.

I was just about to post this. Dennis is a top fella and an outstanding engineer. Tell him what you want - and he'll build it. Exactly.

    Regards,

    Charly
