Eventide H9 Core

Mildly confused... ? It's just an H9 that comes empty with no preloaded algorithms? Kinda cool that it's a way to get the hardware cheaper. Personally, I thought that's how the original should've come. You still get the free algo on purchase, so it's not unusable out the box.

Eventide has launched a lower-cost version of the H9 Effects Processor, the H9 Core, which allows users to add their own choices of effects. With identical hardware to the original, the H9 Core saves you £100 as it is not bundled with algorithms, but instead allows you to select and purchase your own, using the H9 Control App.

yes - could I buy this w/o already having an h9? they make it sound like its only for people who already have one...

Reading is useful.

"Alternatively, H9 Core is a great place to start for users who want to customize their H9 with only the algorithms they want at a lower price of entry."

Depending on the price I am very interested. Another H9 without having to pay for the preloaded algorithms would be very useful. I was hoping for a box that would do two or algorithms at once but this gets me there in a different way I suppose.

The real question is, could you buy this and send it to someone who has an H9 and have them load it with the base algorithms for you?

The linked page states the price of the H9 CORE is 20% less than the orignal H9...hmmm, I believe Eventide made a wise decision introducing the CORE.

I also believe the individual algo's will def. stay at the current price of $19.99.

What'll really make the H9 max its earning potential is if Eventide releases some new (to the H9 unit at the least or totally exclusive) algo's for it immediately.

20% off the H9 price of $500 is still $400. which if it's the core, you only need to buy 5 algorithms and you should have just bought the original, then any additional you wanted.

If the core had been $300, I would have been all over this. with the number of algorithms that come standard, that's easily more then $200 so it wouldn't have devalued the original at all. but $500 with a bunch of algorithms and $20 per any other algorithms you want just seems pretty dang steep for a single pedal (i know it has presets...), or you can take off $100 and have a pedal that will do one thing for $400. I really like this idea, and i don't doubt eventide has reasons for their pricing, I just cant do it.

The only value I see is for someone who already owns an H9 and wants another they can use their purchased algorithms on.

One possible "gotcha" though is do you have to buy the base H9 algorithms again to use on the Core or do you already "own" them because you own an H9?

So buy the H9 with the 14 included algos for 499 or the H9 Core with 5 algos of your choice for the same price - not a very good deal, would seem to only make sense for people who want two H9s and can apparently can share algos their between the two units.

I wonder what's to prevent two people buying an H9 and H9 core and sharing the purchased algos between the two units...?

You already own them and can transfer them (the base 12) over to the core if you have a regular h9.

I think that's the whole point. When you purchase an algo you can already use it on any h9 you have so now the second h9 is cheaper!! I'm in.

It's actually 9 algorithms with the standard H9, 2 from each Factor pedal plus the H9-exclusive UltraTap - the ModFactor algos each have multiple "flavors" of the effect, which Eventide lists separately for the H9 advertising.

It's for people who only want pitch/delay effects (some included) or for H9 owners that want to add a second unit or for people who would just want a handful of specific algo's that aren't included in the standard H9.

I think they could have gotten a little more creative here but offering it for $300 or something like that would totally cannibalize the H9. No one would buy it.

And no, you can't just load it up with someone's presets. You can't do it with the H9 so why would that work with this?

The whole point is to encourage people to use multiple units on one board. Not to lower the entry price. In this regard I think they succeeded on some small level.

I think the problem with the strategy that most of us wanted (only one model/no pre-loaded algo's/price around $200/purchase the algo's you want) is what was already pointed out in this thread. The random guy shopping at GC will look at this as a $200 pedal with zero effects in it when they open the box.

You can't please everyone but I still love this product and the direction they're headed with it.

Hummm. I still want one, and an H9. Isn't this kind of stuff why we're on TGP in the first place. Hats off to Eventide for thinking outside the box - or should I say, redesigning the box.

I think it's a great idea!

I kinda wish they had released this before I bought mine.....

While all those included algos are nice, there's ink a couple I regularly use live anyway.

So $400 for a pedal with no effects. An instant TGP classic.

Actually, it's a $400 pedal with one effect - the H910/H949 Harmonizer algorithm is included. If it helps, think of it as a $400 audio computer instead: you're paying for the hardware, and you'll be picking up the software separately.
