The Marshall Tucker Band - Can't You See

Easiest song on the planet, right? Apparently not. Not a single person on YouTube plays the song correctly, other than the actual MTB.

Repeat after me: D - D/C - G. You may substitute D7 for D/C if you have a bass player.

The middle chord is not a C or C-add-D. Never. Ever. Stop playing it that way immediately.

This has been a public service announcement. Thank you.

I haven't played that song in over 20 years. I was still drinking back then, so I have an excuse...

No chord theory for you! Come back, one year!

"C add D" gets over 78,000 Google hits. Of course, that's how many guitarists are playing "Can't You See" wrong at this very moment, so my excuse may be flawed. :D

Who really cares about the chords for "Can't You See" anymore?! I think it's time we all move on past that song. If I never heard it again it would be fine with me!

...ummm...why would anybody look at an instructional video on a 3" screen when they already know how to play the song?

Agreed. Besides, what good does it do to play the chords right when there isn't a bass player out there who even gets close to covering the bass line?

I just got Deja Vu in this thread. Especially from posts #1 and #9. Seem to be word for word from the past. :)

And very few drummers can do a 1/16th note ride cymbal groove for 5 minutes, so why bother even trying? Oh wait...bar bands from coast to coast play this song every frickin' night of the week. You'd better get a memo out to them too.

I blame internet tab and chord sites. I waanted to learn "Diamond Girl" by Seals and Croft and I was lazy so I googled the chords. One guy's transcription was used on every hit. They sounded awful. So I dug out the record and transcribed it the old fashion way.

I've always thought that everyone on youtube was wrong. I just wasn't sure about what!

You're serious? I don't know where you came up with the "instructional video" idea. Most are just fans doing covers of MTB songs. As I watched each player/group, it became apparent that no one knows the correct chords to what most people believe is a very simple song. And it is simple, but with a subtle twist that they all miss.

Do I have your permission to watch my Robben Ford "Back to the Blues" videos even though I know how to play a 1-4-5? :sarcasm
