Besides Van Halen modern tone, what does it do?
Those of you who play with this amp and don't play Van Halen material, what tones do get from it?

It can do a lot. :)

    Here's a few examples I've recorded.

Takes pedals great to, here with a Trombetta Mini-Bone and Neunaber Reverb.

Great clips. So, basically it sounds like EVH's modern amp ;-)

All joking aside, it really does maintain a pretty strong personality to my ears. It reminds me a little of my old SLO in that regard.

    You don't agree?

the 5150, then when it was repackaged as the 6550 was a standard for metal players for years and still is for many.

theyre one of the best modern high gain amps that dont cost a fortune.

Ha. Yeah I think there at least must be some SLO DNA in them for sure. :)

Awesome tones Blix! Loved the Wicked Sensation licks! Was that with a pedal or just the amp?

I have a Peavey 6505MH. Obviously it doesn't sound quite as good as a 100 watt 5150/6505/5150III, but it crunches, roars, and fizzes (in a pleasing, metal way) just fine in its own right.

The base circuit and sound of all these amps is fundamentally awesome.

My 50w is from the first year of production and made in Vietnam , but they make all of them in Mexico now. The 100w have been made in Mexico all the time as far as I know.

Pat Smear use a 6505 a lot in the Foo Fighters. Morrisey guitarist use it too.

I ve had my 50 Watt EVH for about a month now and I'm am absolutely loving it. Ive been playing with the CH.1/ch.2 gain almost maxed out, like 3-4 o'clock. I lose the sparkly cleans on ch1 of course, but I'm left with an edge-of-breakup tone that still cleans up with my guitar's volume. And channel 2 has a nice heavy saturated tone that is somehow different from the ch3 heavy distortion tone. It's fun to play and I sneak in to the practice room as often as I can!

I photograph a lot of bands, and I see those amps on stage for "most" of the metal bands that I shoot. So I think it's safe to say that they can do metal pretty well.

The other guitarist in my band uses one, and it's a really fantastic amp. He can grab a chord and it just rings and rings. I post this video a decent amount for other things but I think this is a great example.

You can hear it well in the first few songs.
