If he came here, he'd learn that to get that sound, he needs EVH's fingers, and with them, he could get it out of anything.:D

Van McLain from Shooting Star had one of Eddie's Marshalls back when they were opening for VH. Van told me that whoever built the amp covered much of the chassis details in phrenolic

I'll bet Marshall is delighted to hear that Fender/EVH is going to have a pop a taking maybe their most famous signature sound. I think they have a good shot at doing it as well. And getting big customer interest.

Marshall probably has only themselves to blame for not taking ownership of this issue and killing it years ago.

This sounds like an Aprils fools post. I've read that Eddie is quite happy with the 5150 III.

I'd be all over the demos if they ever released them.

Make of it what you will, but the article came out on April 2nd. I read the article twice, and it looks legit to me.

Ed obviously digs the new 5150 III, but as he says in the article, people are always screaming for his old tone. I think it will be great if he releases an amp that sounds like his old one. If he does, they will sell a TON of them. I'll be first in line to try one out and snap it up if I dig it. Releasing an amp that sounds like his old Marshall won't stop them from offering the other 5150 models.

There's so many folks out there who are building dead-on replicas of the old Marshalls.
Folks like George at Metropoulis amps. He's got all that stuff distilled down to a science.

Eddie's Marshall was pretty much a stock amp with a couple part values modified. He got the saturation from lowering the voltage with a variac. That can be done internally now. I think George was doing something like that a while back.

It would be funny if he ends up with a '59 Bassman.

I thought the big secret was out that he just biased an old marshal so hot that the tubes would melt after a short time. Could be another tall tale though. :dunno

Ed lowered the voltage with a variac on a stock Marshall. The magic is Eddie. Bottom line.

There are some great amp makers and players who get VERY Van Halenish tones. Ed's Marshall, stock or tweaked set the bar for me, and I want to hear ME play the amp of this type that ED himself signs off on. Maybe it'll work for me, maybe it won't. Hopefully, it will be amazing. :) I tried out a Legacy amp when they came out, NOT because I wanted to sound like Vai, but because I wanted to hear what I sounded like thru that amp. I didn't like it.

is this like, what, the 5th time now that Ed was going to make an amp to "get that 1st album sound"? How many companies now? isnt this just unabashed greed?

if all the other times he designed an amp to "get that old Vh tone" didnt work...why will this one? if those other attempts DID work, then why do we need yet another?

Same goes for all the guitars. How many brands now?

I remember one of the slogans from like 20 years ago. "I endorsed the guitar I used to play...I DESIGNED this one. Big difference."

Doesnt dude have enough money already?

I don't remember him ever introducing an amp and claiming it sounded like VH1...

    Me neither Pete.

And what the hell is wrong with a company launching new product?
It's silly throwing around the "greed" argument. It's a company , companies are usually ran best with the numbers out of the red. Companies often release new products to keep their brand fresh and "new".
