I bet if you wrote John Kasha (the builder) he would tell you what his experience has been.

I know Phil X toured with Bon Jovi using a head. Wonder if it was a 2x12 ER cab or a 4x12. Either way his tone was killer from all the videos I saw. Great player too!

in the last fretted americana video on youtube, he says that the combo (the black one) would sound good through a 4x12 cab.......so that makes me think in only purchasing the head.......i really DON'T want to buy another cab!! but the tone i heard on all the videos was either the combo or the 2x12cab. hope someone around here had already try dif. cabs
    thanks steve/joe

Sure. I often use the ER Combo I have with my Marshall 4x12 cab. The reason is then I can make it go through my attenuator. It sounds good to my ears.

Here is a video of it with a treblebooster, the Evil Robot and the Marshall cab:

If it's basically a Magnatone 213, I would venture to guess that it would sound best through an open back cab with alnico speaker(s)

I have a few Magnatone amps and really like the Oxfords that originally came with them. I tried Jensen C12N speakers and they sounded really harsh and bright...which is weird because I usually like Jensen C12N speakers for lots of stuff. And usually Oxfords sound bad to me in other amps. Kinda muddy.

    Yes, they are 1967 greenbacks.

I agree on that. I don`t have an original Magnatone Troubadour 213, but a 1x12 clone. I went for a Scumback H75 for speaker, and altough it sounds nice, its a poor tone compared to when I hook the clone up with my 65 amps 2x12 cab with the Alnico Gold/G12H configuration. It sounds extraordinary good!!

Well, all I know is that my clone sounds amazing. Not harsh at all.

I wonder what they use for Varistors in the Robot?

Those are reportedly very rare to find anymore and are part of the sound.

I second the suggestion to email John Kasha. He's one of the nicest guys in the biz. And very very talented.

    Stumbled across this...
Still love my head, though my vintage Titano is better (same thing).
I use it with a Germino 2-12 open back loaded with greenies, sounds just super. I would like the matching cab though.

Varistors, nope. That aspect, not nearly as good IMO, but very useable nonetheless on the ER's.
