Looking at a pair of EVM 12L on Craigslist.

    https://orlando.craigslist.org/ele/d/pair-of-electro-voice-evm-12l/6712922307.html

I'm curious if this is a good deal. What I should be looking for when I go see them. I'm concerned about the weight after reading a bunch of the posts here. The newer models weigh in around 16Lbs according to EV's site. are the older models even more? how much weight am I looking at moving if I put these in a proper cabinet? what would be an ideal cabinet/power source for them? Reading that people only use them as "furniture" has me thinking these might be more than I want to lug around.

$100-150/speaker is more common. He’s high. It’s also weird they used them in a car stereo, but whatevs.

A 2x12 w EVs is gonna be heavy just by nature of the math. 32lbs of speakers. Cab will weigh at least 15-20lbs.

    Why do you need a 2x12? I’ve run my Hiwatt w a 1x12 loaded w a EV12L. They’re 200w speakers.

I would go over $250-$275 for the pair, but they are nice speakers.

They're 19lbs each, the 16lbs number on EV's website is the magnet weight... :)

Great speakers for certain amps. Some people say they like them regardless of the amp. YMMV. I bought 2 of the new ones for $140. Those are the (more desirable) old ones. Play through them first(as a opportunity to see if they are problem-free,renegotiate if they aren't) , easier to get these re-coned.

I think they sound good in Fenders/Dumbles/Ampegs.

I believe there is some mention of them in use in the Mesa Mark V thread.

Definitely sounds good with Fenders. Clean and crunchy just sounds killer.
For Marshall type tones and anything hi-gain I don't like them that much, Celestions shines there for me.

I've never actually tried my EV with my Marshall.

Bonamassa digs them with Marshall (well at least he did).

Bonamassa never really went beyond typical blues-rock tone and it was great, but I'm in the hard rock camp. :rockin
My fave JB tone is his 4-amp rig before his all Marshall period :)

I love the evm12l. I play an ev loaded theile 1x12 out most often and i find it unbeatable for size and sound.

They sound great with my d style amps, carol anns and brunetti pleximan. The thing to remember is that they will show you what your amp actually sounds like.

    Ymmv.

I've got a pair of the new EVM12L speakers in Thiele cabs. Heavy suckers. The 1x12 cabs I have are heavy enough by themselves, I couldn't imagine lugging around a 2x12. If you're the kind of player who likes speaker breakup, you're not going to get it out of the EVs. As others have said, they color the sound of your amp less than Celestion type speakers.

The older speakers are supposed to sound better than the new Mexican-made ones. I don't have an original to A/B against mine, though. Having said that, mine sound pretty good to me, especially in the Thiele cabs.

My cabs sound good with most of the amps I've plugged into them. Vox style circuit, Marshall 18W, 100W solid state amp, Peavey 10W stereo amp.

    That's true.

I'm a fan of his Kelley rig on the Beth Hart stuff.

    And how much I suck.

For a while my rig was an 18 Watt "Pug" Marshall clone on top of a 2x12 cab with EVM12L's in it.
There was an older well broken in one and a newer one, from about 7 years ago.
    Killer tone! Short Clip >>

You can get them for less, sometimes a lot less.

I don't expect to ever repeat this, but a couple years ago I bought four for $160 from a guy on Craigslist who was recovering/recycling old PA and theater speaker cabs. They're not exactly rare. If you're patient and do some research you will definitely find some for much less.

The mesa black shadow evm12 is the rare one. not sure if they're voiced differently. i bought one years ago and by the time i realized that i wanted one more they disappeared. i haggled with bidders on one a couple years later on ebay and lost. i just checked ebay and there are none.

mine's in an OB 1x12 and it FILLS our rehearsal space and can peel paint off the walls. when i run it in parallel with a 2x12 OB w/v30's the 1x12 is louder.

Look at it this way, at $200 each, that's new price minus 20%, an extremely doable price in this world. So, $200-250 is more realistic. If you could get them for that, I'd say go for it, they're great speakers!
