Yep -- hey, I thought you're not allowed to take pics of the guitars in there?
Two more cool axes
Old 54 guitar.
Some old prototype.
Jimi's address book.
Back of Monterey strat.
The Space Needle reflected in the anodized cladding of The Experience Music Project.
There are hundreds of other cool, rare guitars: Broadcasters, first year Telecasters, guitars from the birth of guitars. Lots more Hnedrix. Plus cool interactive music projects and a SciFi museum. And the whole family wasd $54.
No love for EMP?
I actually shed a few tears when I visited the EMP and I'm not really the emotional type...
When we moved to Seattle it was one of the first places we visited..even before the Space Needle. We were there over 3 hours and it felt like 30 minutes. When someone asks what to do when in Seattle, if they enjoy music, the easy answer is The EMP. Aside from the hardware, there are studios equiped with guitars, bass and durms to jam a bit..I liked the sing-a-long with Heart. So much to do and see and there is always a special display featuring an artist personal collection.
They just changed that rule about 3 months ago. It's all good now....
It's a cool place, but pales a bit when compared to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. If your thing is "memorbilia", the HOF just has so much more! During my EMP visit, they had temporaily put away the Hendrix exhibit! WTF?!?! The top floor with the little studios for the kids was awesome though, something the R&RHOF should learn from.
I also totally recommend the Sci-Fi Hall of Fame part of the building. That was more fun than the EMP!
Picture are OK as long as there is no flash.
