I learned when I was eleven that my paternal grandmother had shot and killed her second husband (her first husband, my grandfather, died in WWII) after catching him in flagrante delicto. It wasn't a secret, but it was a shocking thing to learn, at that age.

That should be considered malpractice. It's irresponsible and cruel.

Some times it is not good to know if some one if buried in the back yard. Don't ask, don't tell!

4 sure. Did I mention that my aunt was 78 when she had to kick a 20-year-old methadone habit cold turkey?

In my 30's I was told about one of my Dad's uncles whom I had never heard of. He had a abusive witch of a wife. He finally snapped, killed her and their baby, then spent the rest of his life in an asylum.

Depends on the situation. Some things are better left unsaid.

The health consequences are even more magnified at that age. Unreal.

When my grandmother was getting on in years she was constantly being given pictures of my grandfather as a young man, by people who were slightly older than her oldest child. Interestingly enough, said pictures pictured always seemed to be the property of the mother of the person presenting the picture. ;)

The fam would leave me with big brother when they would go to grandma's for vacation during the summer. What occurred then are the stories that I'll take to the grave.

Yup. One of my first cousins had a child with a girlfriend when he was much younger and not one member of our immediate family has ever met or seen or really knows about it. The conversation slipped out one day when his brother was talking to my sister about some family stuff.
I was pretty shocked but not surprised. I believe that my Aunt and Uncle swore the to secrecy about it.

Either way, I don't worry about it nor will I ever ask. He is a good guy and I know that he has provided for the child for years now.

Yeah, my mom was dying, and told me some things.
    Definitely a WTF moment.

Once, while having a heated debate with a Frenchman, I learned that my mother was a hamster and my father smelt of elderberries.

My family secret is that my dad was married before he married my mom.
That “cousin” of mine was my half-sister.

My mother was married before she met my father. My oldest sister was my half sister. My mother was abandoned by the first husband. My mother's father divorced my grandmother and remarried and had two kids. There are some other family connections around that grandmother that I'm still not totally clear about to this day. I think my brother did some digging. I'll have to ask him when I see him next.

And then there's the fact that my brother and I came down from space in a meteor. At least, that's what our oldest brother tried to convince us at one time.
