    Oh happy day!

So, I took a 2-hour drive to Ben Fargen's shop last night to pick up my new Mini Plex Mk2. (Why trust it to the Brown Truck guys when you don't have to?)

Ben's an awesome guy---really into his work and his enthusiasm is infectious. One cool thing he told me about this amp was that, since I added some features, it ended up being a de-facto custom-shop model (like the Ben Fargen Exclusive line) and built completely by him.

Unfortunately, I have to leave right now to spend the afternoon/evening at a stupid party and I won't be able to plug in again until tonight. Ugh.

Too soon for a full tone report (without getting accused of honeymooning), but here are some pics of it making a lovely addition to the guest bedroom (aka my music room).

NICE!!!! Mine apparently shipped Friday!!!! Ben emailed me last week early on and said mine was burning in all week and shipping Friday. I asked for overnight on the original order so if that's the case I'll have it by mid morning at work tomorrow! I hope, I never got tracking. I'm stoked anyways!!!! I look forward to your report! :)

Congrats on the new amp!!! I just bought one used today from a fellow gear pager and I should have it some time this week and I can't wait!!! That is cool that you got to pick it up in person at the Fargen lair....

I can't wait to hear your impressions of it!

Ah, satisfaction ... my (outdoor) party got cancelled because of the rain, so a quick drive back to the city and I'm set with the Fargen for the evening.

To answer some questions, it's got 2 Celestion Greenbacks in it (the regular ones) and the main mod I did (other than the aesthetic ones) is the effects loop. It was the first one ordered with the loop, which is why it ended up being something that was a Ben solo build.

It's a very cool loop that can do a lot of things, but I'll need some more time with it before a review. Right now, though, there's a ThunderTweak delay in the loop and in the 80s setting I've got some excellent VH tones going on.

    Very nice indeed.

Suprised to see how large the head cab is.

Great for cooling and access to change tubes, but still surprises
me to see the size on the 2X12 cab.

    Certain you'll enjoy it.

Don't quote me on this but I think BAN's is bigger because he got the optional effects loop. Here is a picture of mine (same color but I had bad lighting.)

Voojo is right. Mine is actually significantly bigger because of the bigger chassis for the effects loop (1/2" taller and a full 6" wider).

That, plus the 2x12 has the speakers offset (pics to come) so it's a little smaller than a lot of 2x12s out there (27"w x 20"h)----especially ones with widefaced borders (for example, the Avatar Contemporary is 31"w x 21"h).

    But, yeah ... it's a big head.

It's good to have the LP in the photo for scale.

I'm only guessing that the 2X12's are semi diagonal mounted to keep
    the speaker cab size compact.

I know you're not about to take apart your brand new amp, but it would be cool to see the chassis details and speaker mounting.

The larger head cab and chassis would make it easier to upgrade the power in the future if that becomes desirable, but for an 8-12 watter, she's a biggun.

Here are some back shots. Crappy lighting at night, sorry. Oh, and the back of the head cabinet isn't ready yet, so this is a temporary one. The new one will look like the standard one on his site with the oval and continuing down the sides.

    Ha! Sorry about that.

I'd love to oblige, but I'm just not that curious yet. Oh, and I'm very, very lazy.

You can see from these new photos, that head cab is WAY oversized allowing for all kinds of expansion.

It's easy to see that he could eventually offer a smaller custom head cab
    as the orders come in.

My guess is that he didn't have time to build out a new custom head cab
to fit the slightly larger chassis required for the FX loop.

    The speaker cab looks great!

    Thanks!

Actually the cabinet was built to order (his brother builds all his cabinets and this one got built just a week or two ago). Fargen doesn't currently have any large, Marshall-style, bottom-loaded chassis heads.

Yeah, it is oversized ... like most vintage Marshalls and their modern emulators (check out the Germino Classic 45 pics on his site). When I knew I was getting the longer chassis for the FX loop I decided I wanted it to take on more of a vintage Marshall look in its dimensions and make it bigger, and that's what he did.

It's big, but I really dig it that way. It matches the sound coming out of it ... have I mentioned the bass? Damn!

I did indeed see her. The cab was right there and the guts were on Ben's bench. Which is a good sign.

Thanks BAN! One more weird question for you. Did you see if it had a Mighty Plex badge? Probably a long shot but figured I would ask. I suppose I can just be patient and wait or ask Ben coming up this week.

P.S. The more you play the Mk2 the better it will get. You will really get good at dialing in any sound you want after spending some time with it!

    Seth

P.S yes the bass response is huge for a smaller amp. I don't know how Ben does it but it's great!
