i love mike mcreadys playing and his tone. and the fact hes a mad man on the stage even today makes him a badass in my book.

John Frusciante. The first guy I got into that mixed funk and modern rock so well. Blood Sugar Sex Magik is a masterpiece!

Tom Morello. Inventive rock guitar, especially coming right out of the guitar excesses of the 80's.

Eric Johnson. His playing is fantastic and is always interesting. His tone is alright too I guess...

I agree with Zorak. Tom Morello is the EVH of the 90's. He took guitar where it never had been. My second pick would be Johnny Greenwood from Radiohead. His work on The Bends and OK Computer is amazing.

the guitarist from the wallflowers album "bringing down the horse" was also a great, very tasteful player.

Some overlooked rock guys from the 90's that deserve consideration are Ronni Le Tekro and Chris Poland.

I also agree with the above post that Johnny Greenwood from Radiohead is a very creative and underrated player.

Dimebag gets my vote. I'm not a big metal fan but he really clicked with me. Instantly recognizable and imaginative. A great talent and a great loss.
