This is not necessarily about new music, just any music that you discovered for the first time on TGP this year. TGP has always been a good place to discover new music for me and 2016 was a good one in that regard. Probably my favorite was The Vanduras, a mix of surf, some country swing and some spaghetti western. If you like James Wilsey, you'll almost certainly like the Vanduras and Gary Bandon on lap and pedal steel is nothing short of a monster.

Not through TGP, but Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats is pretty fun to listen to.

That, and an oldie: Chester and Lester (Chet Atkins & Les Paul). A masterpiece!

There are quite a few but the most recent is Anderson/Stolt. For fans of old Yes, a real treat.

Only from TGP? Someone posted some early 80s synthpop and new wave a few weeks ago. It got me into a early 80s synthpop/newwave binge. A ton of new to me stuff I like and still to discover in the realm.

Not new, but also not through TGP - Gary Jules;

Gary Jules is more known for "Mad World" but his other stuff is drawing me in - I like his voice.

Another voice that started grabbing me this year is Ray LaMontagne -

JD SIMO!

Vanduras and Gary Bandon on lap and pedal steel is nothing short of a monster.
Brandin is generally a steel 'console' player as opposed to a pedal steeler or even playing steel on his lap, but this is a landmark CD that came out as the heydays of The Blue Hawaiians slowed down some, and hopefully we'll see the 2nd release he and his son have been recording for many yrs now as well as more from The Blue Hawaiians.

Actually, after a bit of recollecting I realised I do have a somewhat of a TGP introduction for this year! I got a copy of Jim Soloway's "Barehanded" back early in 2016 (Thanks Jim!) and we put it on our work shuffle of 15,844 songs - the randomizer on the player seems to like it a lot because the album gets much more play than would be expected for that volume of material. It's to the point that the other guys say "Hey, it's Jim!" when one of his tracks come on. Good stuff!

:)

Not new, but also not through TGP .......

If it had also been "not music" you would have had the trifecta of disregarding the theme of the thread......so....Christmas cudos to you!:D

Keyboardist Cory Henry has catapulted to being one of my favorite musicians of all.

Thanks Doug. I'm honoured.

Without wishing to wind up the 'rap isn't real music' contingent, I listened to a Die Antwoord track on one of those threads and bought an album on the strength of it.

For the longest time I heard how about Minus the Bear and how many pedals they used, and how much I would like them. So much in fact, that I becamse turned off by even the idea of the band.

Well, I finally saw them on Live at Daryls, and looked up some stuff on youtube. These guys are great. Amazing songs. So actually I blame TGP for making me wait to discover a great band, lol. What else am I missing out on because of my snobbery ways?

I love this song, and wish I'd written it.
