I know there have been posts on this before. But I tried searching and couldn't find them. Maybe got lost in one of the many forum crashes (?).

Anyway, I'd like to know what your favorite new production 6L6 is.

Tung Sol 6L6GC STR. These seem to have a nice transparent, open tone that's missing from most new production stuff.Great bass, dual side getters, black plates, and a smooth top end.To me,they sound somewhat like an old GE with a tighter envelope.Cleaner, tighter and better note seperation than the current Groove Tube "GE".

The TAD, but the WGC. It sounds more like an old GE than the Groove Tube GE. Very similar to the old GE as a matter of fact.

I've had a pair of TAD 6L6WGC-STR's in my SF Bassman for almost three years now, nary a problem and they sound great.

Same here, mainly because I like the way they distort, very smooth transition from clean to dirty, although the cleans are gorgeous too.

Could people maybe elaborate on their answers? as in; why they like said tubes?

after all if you like a tube cause it breaks up real nice and fast then that would be a no go for what I am looking for.

Sure - I've tried quite a few of the new production 6L6GC types and my ears like the Winged C the best. Solid bass that's not overbearing, nice midrange, and a top end that is just right to my ears (bright and clear but, not harsh). It's got a great balance of wonderful cleans with just enough headroom where you need it and an amazing overdriven tone. It doesn't sog or mush out or blur when pushed like some others. A very vintage like tone - almost NOS like. To me, it's just right. They have also been very reliable in my experiences.

    Hope that helps a bit.

What he said about the Winged C is kinda how I'd describe the TAD WGC only different. I've got the old Sylvania tall boys in my 6L6 amp with the TAD WGCs waiting to go in. Like a backup QB. The Winged C are more like the Sylvania. The TAD is more like the GE. Both good, just different. Alas, I don't think nothing's like an RCA but an RCA.
