Growing up during the '50s and the '60 I was "raised" on Westerns, as was most of the rest of the culture.

So I personally, have quite a few "favorite" Westerns. But at the top of that list, for me are... (listed in chronological order) My "Dozen Favorite Westerns" !

~ Red River (1948) / John Wayne, Montgomery Cliff, Walter Brennan
~ The Searchers (1956) / John Wayne, Jeffrey Hunter, Vera Miles
~ The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence (1962) / John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Vera Miles, Lee Marvin
~ Tribute to a Bad Man (1956) / James Cagney
~ Hombre (1967) / Paul Newman, Richard Boone
~ Little Big Man (1970) / Dustin Hoffman, Chief Dan George
~ Jeremiah Johnson (1972) / Robert Redford, Will Geer
~ The Outlaw Josie Wales (1976) / Clint Eastwood, Sam Bottoms, Sandra Locke, Chief Dan George
~ Lonesome Dove (1989) (really more of a series than a "Movie") / Robert Duvall, Tommy Lee Jones, Danny Glover, Diane Lane
~ Dances With Wolves (1990) / Kevin Costner, Graham Greene
~ Tombstone (1993) / Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer, Sam Eliott, Bill Paxton, Powers Boothe
~ True Grit (2010) / Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Barry Pepper

Each of these I would highly recommend.

And then there are the TV Series.... both from the '50s and '60s, as well as modern day series ( such as the great ** Deadwood ** ! ). Now that is a whole 'nother list of great Westerns to consider ! !
