Fellow Europeans, shipping costs for a guitar?

I want to buy two Electric guitars, but the company said shipping will be $200 each, so $400 for the two.

Anyone bought something recently and know the shipping rates?

Thanks.

Hi:

This what I am usually charged for a 3/4 day shipping insured to Spain via Fedex or UPS. Sounds like market price to me.

Cheers,

Hugues.

i usually pay $150 to $250 depending on where the guitar is located in the usa, but i don´t think the cost doubles when you buy 2. it should be more like 1 guitar=150 and 2 guitars=200. (that is an actual quote i got from a good dealer).

If anybody needs some guitars brought to London from the US in early February, let me know. I'm flying in for a bit and could bring "gifts"! Maybe you can avoid VAT that way?

I had two K-line guitars shipped to me near Frankfurt...a tele and a strat and they cost between $70-90 USD to ship with USPS...the tele was heavier but still light for a tele and cost a bit more...the strat was feather light...

From my experience: most dealers ship only UPS or FEDEX, which costs >$200.
Most private sales, you can arrange USPS; cost is around $100.

I don't know about that. The Heathrow customs guys are supposed to be pretty sharp re: guitars.

What's to say that the guitars aren't my personal instruments, and I'm bringing them for my personal use at a performance or three?

Bands tour with instruments in this manner all the time, I'm told.

Because bands have work permits I think

The theory is that if it is of any value, it should be declared or proven that it won't be staying in the country...as far as I am aware..
