.... what did the originals have and what are the reissues supposed to come with? I've seen them both with stamped serial numbers on the plate and other without any SN. :huh

Never seen a '52 RI tele with a serial (or anything at all) on the neckplate. Maybe some early reissues could have this or the neckplate is not original..

my thin skin AVRI52 came with the serial numbers on the neck plate, and a Custom Shop neck plate was part of the case candy.

Ditto, I just bought one that shipped straight from Fender and it came with the period correct bridge with the serial number. They also included a modern plate without the number.

I just got a "thin skin" AVRI52 from Dave's Guitar and there's no SN on the bridge plate. The SN is on the neck plate, and in the case was a Custom Neck Plate. Is this correct? Don't most 52's have the SN on the bridge plate also? I need expert advice before I call Dave's.

pic? Sounds like you have a replacement bridge that says 'Fender Pat. Pend' but no number.

Why would there be a replacement bridge on a brand new guitar? I thought I was buying a new guitar, it sure looks new. Where the SN should be on the bridge plate is smooth metal, and from there to the saddle mounts it's like ruffed up metal. Is there something askew here? Need expert advice. Thanks in advance.

Do you have the six saddle vintage bridge by any chance?

I have a new old stock AV52 60th Anniversary "Inlay" FSR which came with that very bridge, from the case candy and which was affixed to the guitar; subsequently GC lost the numbered 3 barrel vintage plate. I got a very substantial discount on the guitar because in effect the serial number is now gone. But for well under $ 600 shipped I dare not complain, and at least this version (one of 1,000) does have # 185 stamped into the special 60th Limited Edition neck plate.

This is what the numbered plate is supposed to look like (another 60th "Inlay"):

One can see I've chosen shorter hex head height screws over the stock slot head ones; these are players.

Boris, The 6 saddle set up was in the case. I haven't looked at the plate to see if there are any numbers on it. Mine came with the 3 brass barrels, and the funky looking plate, W/O SN's. Also included in the case candy was a Custom Shop neck plate. I'm just concerned about the bridge plate. Thanks again.

The initial American '52 reissues had a 4 digit serial number on the bridge plate with a small round indentation right below the serial numbers. This was done to identify the reissue bridges from the original bridges, which had 4 digit serial numbers under 5000.

After a short time Fender began putting 5 digit serial numbers on the American '52 reissues bridge plates. I believe the MIJ '52 reissues had an "E" prefix before a 5 digit number on the bridge.

I'm not sure what's being done now.

I really want to know what I've gotten myself into here. I thought I was buying an AVRI52 thin skin from Dave's. On the neck plate (on the guitar) is SE04335. On the bridge plate(3 barrel) it says Fender Pat. Pending(no numbers). I got a neck plate in an envelope from Daves that says Special Edition. Did I buy a MIJ RI or is this an American Made thin skin special run AVRI52? I'm starting to worry a bit now.

Its not MIJ it would say MIJ or CIJ on the neck near the bottom, also CIJ have decals underneath the finish not on top. I can't believe nobody owns a thinskin and can confirm the serial number on the bridge. Go to TDPRI Im sure they have thinskins there.

or
Just email or call Dave's.

The info I've found says that SE in the serial number mean 'Signature Edition' and were produced from 1982 to present.

Well, I've got an even weirder one. I've got a 60th Anni with the wood insignia inlay. However, mine only has the serial number on the bridge, and a plain neck plate. It was sold to me as a 52 reissue. The story from the Fender rep was that they turned out a few more bodies than the thousand originally called for in case they screwed some up and these "overages" were shipped out as 52 reissues. Don't know how many might be out there. But I've got one of the few natural finish 52s with nocaster p/ups!

My '52 FSR Black and Gold Tele had the serial on the neckplate starting with the "V" designation - just a pat pend on the bridgeplate, no number. For that particular model (100 made), that's what it's supposed to be like actually.
