I was surprised that the guitar has a backplate. I figured the bridge was like a Jaguar/Jazzmaster.
My guess is the trem uses strat style springs
What can’t that guy do?!?!?
It has a strong early EBMM / Yamaha Pacifica vibe to it. Weird.
Here’s a clip, sounds rad.
I should be grateful that this isn’t in the American Professional lineup (or whatever they’re calling it these days). I would be seriously tempted.
I predict that this Thorn chap is going to really go places in the world of custom guitars!
I've actually only very recently become aware of his work as I'm mostly into vintage style or oddball old guitars. Every time I've looked up some of his work I find some fascinating design details - his neck/body joint for example. It took me a minute to realize that this guitar didn't have a slanted humbucker installed in the bridge position, but instead seems to have two single coils mounted close together and offset just right so the polepieces are crossed dead center by the strings. The bridge didn't jump out at me at first either but then I noticed it wasn't an off the shelf combination of a Jazzmaster/Jaguar tailpiece with a Mastery bridge but something unique. And that's not even getting into the amazing workmanship!
Anyone know what the "USA Only" on the back of the headstock means?
Thats why I said Fender needed someone like Ron Thorn
EGADS, man..that's hideous...ugh!
Y'alls mileage *obviously* varies.
Looks great !!
Brazilian rosewood fretboard
Won’t ship overseas due to cites
This is a very cool guitar.
At first I was also confused by the back plate and thought I'd prefer a standard top-mount JM trem, but I think it's especially cool that Fender will let Master Builders create their own hardware, and from the video, seems like this system works nicely.
I could see a market for that as a model.
The pickup layout works great
Similar to robbie Robertson’s strat.
It still quacks but also gets some cool teleish tones
At least the thorn one I played did
I like the new Fender Cali Special, but not the tail piece. I would prefer a stop tail over the Jassmaster trem.
it's not a normal JM trem.
It's ron's own design.
Since it's CS only, I'm sure it could be ordered any way one likes.
Point in case.
Mine would be korina, hard tail, blackwood board korina neck, vol/tone. Single humbucker and no neck pickup
I'm thinking Red.
Wait a second...…
I hope they’ll make this a more affordable CS model, then add it to the MIA or MIM lines. As it is, I’ll admire it from a distance.
I love this. To me, strats with bridge HBs look wrong, but this new design would get you similar tonal flexibility with nice aesthetics.
Very cool, and the trem is really interesting. I hope we'll be seeing more of that.
