Why does Fender continue to ship all the Custom shop goodies with new guitars, strap or guitar cord? I understand the strap locks as those are a good option to have. Is it strictly for resale value? It seems 99% of the time these items are in new/never used condition when someone is selling a custom shop. Injust don't see any value to including them, am I missing something?

    I don't understand your complaint.
Fender includes a few freebies with a high end guitar and this bothers you?
    Am I missing something?

Imagine the screaming if Fender Custom Shop stopped including the extras.

When I bought a Custom Shop Strat a few years ago, it came with the strings all ready installed. I was like, “Are you freaking kidding me!”

I remember when Fender offered Straplocks on normal production models, the Strat Plus/Deluxe/Ultra models from 1987-1999. But they put those on because it helped the guitar's value. I wonder with all the relicing going on, do they need to do this anymore? I have a 1990 Strat Ultra, which I'll probably have to have arthritis before I give it up, that has them. But the rumor that the then fledgling Custom Shop was helping in the making of these guitars, kinda makes sense.

Neastguy, you might be right, they probably feel guilty.

Simple. Fender knows they're gouging the hell outta you on CS gear so they include a few "free" extras to ease the pain and pre-lube the squeaky wheels who complain that "the least Fender could do is include a cord, a strap, a t-shirt, a bumper sticker, a pub glass, a barstool, a set of strings, a deck of cards, and a shot glass for what they're charging!"

I think they've stopped with the cable maybe, at least I didn't get one with my recent CS Strat and recent pictures on retailers sites don't seem to show one anymore either.

The strap is pretty decent actually, I wish it didn't have the silly "when you're ready" text on it....but otherwise it's actually a pretty quality strap and totally usable. Other than that I just got some picks, the ash tray, a decal, and some paperwork. Nothing excessive really and seems appropriate for what it is. A little extra swag when spending that kind of money helps it feel special.

The really weird one to me is the odd thin grey cable that my EJ strat came with. It's just a weird cable and seemed an odd inclusion on that particular guitar. Never even took it out of the bag.

Oh look, more anti-Fender Custom Shop posts.

That’s right; it’s all there to make us feel better about getting ripped off. :facepalm

I don’t like the birds on PRS guitars, but I don’t feel the need to crap on people who do.

    Stay in your lane.

Cruz Tools came with CS guitars in the past. It's a decent set of tools that I use weekly.

I also have 4 black leather CS straps that have become my go to straps. All were part of the case candy.

Thanks... yep the straps are really nice. I don't think I got those tools with my Tele.
I need to call my SW rep and see what is up with that! lol

One of my CS guitars came with the tool kit from a few years back. My new ones have come with the new certificate and built sheet holder, some picks, a cable and a nice strap. Sadly, I don't use any of that stuff and just keep it all together in a safe place.

There's a lot of people who seem to like included, cheap add-ons and "freebies". There's seemingly a lot of guitar porn around "case candy". Not really my thing, but whatever.

Given that these guitars normally retail at $3,500+, throwing in a $20 strap, $15 Straploks, $20 cord is a drop in the bucket for everybody in order to make it more fun for a segment of the buyers.

I think it's all useless crap but a nice touch they toss in some goodies.
