I had a Telecaster a few years ago, and I sold it because it was just too darn uncomfortable to play-- both on my ribs and my forearm.

Since then, I bought a Les Paul, and I've adapted my playing style such that the guitar's hard edges don't bother me.

Now, I'm considering the Tele again. The modern MIA tele has a rib contour, which is a huge selling point for me. But does that help with the forearm comfort, too? I'm thinking I could angle the body against me and avoid the sharpness of the forearm edge.

I don't have time to go try one out anytime soon.

I'm still blown away by how much I love a rib contour on a Tele.
The sunburst Am Dlx Tele was the first new guitar I bought in ages and it's what got me back into gear.
The first gig I played with it--eschewing my beloved hardtail Strat--I remembered everything about my first love with absolutely none of the bad parts.
I've since hunted down an additional Am Nashville, and built two La Cabs, all with the rib contour.
While the forearm ridge never bothered me, the rib contour sets the guitar so even that is less pronounced.
    You'll really dig it.
    Happy hunting.
