Fender tele HB pickup covers with offset screws?

Why do the HB pickups have 3 screws offset? Can you take the covers off and have a traditional looking HB?

Do you mean the original '70s pickups or the current "repros"?

The originals don't look exactly like Gibsons. The repros use 'standard' bobbins, though. On the ones that are 'wide', like the originals, they're spaced further apart; there are standard sized versions that are the same coils, just positioned normally.

They are all somewhat based on the 70's pickup design by Ted McCarty who also designed Gibson's humbuckers. Because of Gibson's humbucker patent they had to be different, so they used screws made out of CuNiFe magnets in the originals and the offset cover. I don't know what these Shawbuckers sound like but the previous Fender reissues of these pickups didn't sound great.
