Man, Scott Auld will love this - I'm spending more time with my Telecaster than ever. It's only a '52 RI but what a guitar, beautiful acoustic tone - lovely neck, playability etc., etc.
Maybe I'm sick of "quack" or maybe I'm getting old!
I need another Tele or Esquire - which one would complement the '52 RI? Something different.

Best, Pete.

I am also interested in a tele, and would be interested what others thought about good ones to get. I would want a bigsby on it though.

Well, you could get one with alder/RW and one with ash/RW and one with alder/maple or maybe a thinline or a Custom Tele with binding or one like yours with a humbucker. Then there are the super cool custom colors. I like Fiesta red but sonic blue is sharp too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Teles are great for sure! I recently made a Tele my #1 as well. As far choices there are so many good ones, but for my money the 80s-90s MIJ examples, Fender or otherwise, are hard to beat.

I am also gassing for a new Tele, but instead of buying a new Fender, I am really wanting one of the RS Guitarworks Teles with a Filtertron. Best of both worlds!! I would also love a Tele with a single P90.

I'm working on a late 50s blonde, chambered ash Tele (no f-hole) with a single P-90 in the neck position. No bridge pickup, half bridge. Quite a few P-90 Esquires running around right now (Southern Ill. is my favorite) but this should be a different beast. Stay tuned.

Consider a rosewood fingerboard, and/or something with variety in the neck position (humbucker, mini-humbucker, P-90, Filtertron, Strat pickup?), and maybe a bit more rounded at the bridge pickup position (Don Mare, Lollar, Hamel)...?

I know what you mean.
After YEARS of Strats and Les Pausl, I find myself hanging out Telecaster and Gretsch guitar land almost exclusively these days, and am enjoying it a great deal.

Good Luck in your search

Happy Holidays

+1 But not all created equal. The OP should buy from Wildwood and have Steve pick a good one out for him.

My '52 RI is my favorite tele.
I picked it out myself............
......"only" because it is nothing fancy like some. I tell you you CAN find a great Fender from their regular range BUT you need to try yourself.

I was talking to the Manager of our local GC in Springfield, NJ when one of his guys brought it out from back to place in a display (a couple of years ago). It looked great; I picked it up and the headstock flew skywards, it's light and then the neck seduced me. Jimmy Somma thought it was one of the best Tele necks he had played too.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys.

Best, Pete.
