Porter > Fender
It really depends on what you're trying to go for. Porter definetly is better at more "Strat" tones, but the tex mex has more sustain and can rock out harder (proabably cause its hotter pickup).
So much of this has to do with the amp settings when making the recording and the speakers you are using to listen to these clips. I have a decent set of Altec Lansing computer speakers set flat. To me the Tex Mex pickups sounded much fuller with better note clarity. The Porter pickups sounded more like vintage pickups due to the lower output, but seemed a bit under-powered on some frequencies (especially in the quack positions). But tweaking a few knobs on the amp could make the Porters sound far superior....maybe?
I like fatter strat tones better, so my vote goes to the Tex-Mex pick ups. But that's very subjective!
