How does this pickup do in the bridge position? Will I miss a humbucker with this pickup?
I did, they sound thin and icepicky to me
What did you end up placing in the bridge position?
I have these pickups, and they sound pretty good all over. However, I can't really seem to get anything but SRV sound from them. But if you're looking for that bluesy sound, I'd recommend them. I'm trying to trade them out for more neutral sounding pickups that can be more versatile for me. So basically, they sound great, but mainly for just one thing.
(The bridge pickup itself was fine for me)
Depends on the amp. TSs sound good through my Bassman, horrible through my VHT. Changed them out for 2 Fralin VHs and a SP43. Much better clean and dirty tones now.
In my opinion and experience, Texas Specials are probably the most sensitive to the wood surrounding them pickups I've run across. I had the exact same set in 5 different Strats and they either sounded great or like pooh. Go figure? I think the bridge pickup generally sounds better of the three...but "better" is very subjective.
TS's sound a LOT like most single coil Strat pups.
do a youtube search for Mark Knopfler. I believe he is using them in has red MK strat. If you search for more recent stuff anyway.
