Got a 73 that's been blackfaced internally. Now and then, I hear a pop when playing certain notes on the lower strings...Does not do it all the time. I'm told it may be a power tube? Any Suggestions?

    thanks

Probably due for a service call. Tubes are possible, cleaning and retensioning the tube sockets are ,most likely, over due. Don't waste your time guessing, have a pro look it over. It's too good of an amp for less!

Ya best to get it to a shop soon. I had some quirks with mine, a quick repair and it was back to normal.

Remove the tube shields and thump tap your pre-amp tubes with your finger like you would tap thump someones head with your finger and see if you have one that is pops when you thump it. It could be just a microphonic 12AX7/7025. Usually in the V1 or V2. If not get it in and have it checked out.

Have you tried a different guitar? You could have a static build-up from the guitar.
