Howdy, folks. I have a problem string on my Firebird. The low E string sits so high that it pulls sharp at the first fret. So, since I'm only lowering a single string, is this something that can be performed with common tools found around the home - maybe just some sandpaper, for that matter?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and thank you in advance. :)

so the rest of the strings are perfect?

that seems kind of unlikely, especially on a gibby from the factory.

anyway, the right tool is a specialized nut file at like $15 each, and you need half a dozen to file a nut properly.

this is a critical step, for both tuning stability and good intonation down low, and one that even some "pros" seem to get wrong. it would be worth taking it in to a really good tech.
