Finally a good surplus store in Chicago Burbs.

Not affiliated, just a nice find!

Found these guys on Chicago Craigs List and went there Saturday morning.
I bought a extra heavy duty stepup-stepdown transformer new in box for $20.00

They have hundreds of bin of common brand film and electrolytic caps by Illinois, Mallory & Sprague, CC Resistors, wire, switches, lamps lenses, knobs and way to much to list
Pricing is great, and they are constantly adding more items.

For you local DIYers this place is a nice resource.

Nope,
this shop and owner(I Met) was once a projector company that made overheads and other visual aids for schools. He said since everyone has gone to PC and digital based stuff, he decided to move into the surplus business.
They have been at this location over 30 years, but only a few months as a surplus shop.
When I was there they were setting up more shelves and racks for new arrivals.

I would love to see Triode get out of cook county! I buy nothing from them due to the extra 3% cook county sales tax lol


I do not know if you remember old Uncle Ned from Triode, but he operates out of southern Illinois. low rent, low taxes = better prices.

The triode shop (ebay and ordering) is out there... not sure where, but it is south and slightly west of Elgin... near an airport maybe. I only know those guys from the last few months as they are close to my neighborhood. Was sorry to see them move out... but you are right about the silly sales tax.

I hadnt realized they moved recently.

I know where they moved to, in fact its only about 10 minutes as the crow flys from me.

St Charles near Dupage airport! I go over past there at least 5 times a week.

One of these days you should hop on the old Metra and stop out this way.
Maybe after the flower's bloom, fire up the old BBQ and do a bit of pickin & Grinnin.
In May the 4 Amigos Texas Guitar show will be out this way, in fact, its maybe 3-4 blocks from Triodes new shop.

My best guess based on the location of the new building they moved into a shop about 1500 sq ft.
I'll be over past there later this week.
