I was after the Neil Young Rust era sounds for a log time.
I know where his sound comes from, based on the article in the
Tone Quest Report September 2007 (the interview with Larry Cragg).
I spare you you the recapitulation ... it has been discussed a lot of times.

I own the Durham Crazy Horse and I have to admit that I love this
pedal and its sound but, something was amiss.
But this pedal gave me the right idea.
It is basically a distortion unit feeding a fuzz.

Today I have found the right (IMHO) combination of devices.

    Tonefactor Hellbilly
    > Earthquaker Hoof
    > Fender Tweed (clean)
instant torn speaker, cooking tubes, exploding amp, Rust era sound.

Sorry no clips at the moment ... maybe next week.

My The Sweet fuzz from Frantone gets me this sound too.

For this sound, I lower the Sustain knob to about 11:00, and raise the Tone knob to 2:00. for all other fuzz needs on this pedal, I use the opposite settings (Tone at 11:00, Sustain at 2:00).

I run it through the clean channel, well, clean crunch, of my Mesa Stiletto Ace head and a 412 cab.
