i must admit i'm getting off the beaten track in my declining years;) ..
since i got the fiesta red jazzmaster in november,i think i may have picked up my 69 stratocaster twice.
i believe i know what's happening to me. i am totally out of ideas on how to do something fresh on a stratocaster. in fact if you leave out jimi hendrix or maybe the beckola record, i don't even want to HEAR a stratocaster...well,richie blackmore too.blasphemy?maybe.lack of creativity?
    maybe.
all i know is i'm looking for ME.RIGHT NOW. and playing a jazzmaster is
like being 19 again(the age i started on stratocasters). i don't think i sound like anybody at all,and it's making me create a thing that is mine.
    now;
i think i'll try a firebird with mini-buckers..anybody wanna talk me off the ledge?
p.s. anybody seen the photos of the epi worn firebird they are debuting at namm? i am mos def getting one.
    peace,
    r

    Follow your bliss!

A bird with mini humbuckers was my gigging guitar for years...loved it. Recently played one and fell in love all over again.

    I'm looking.

Alvin Youngblood Hart was channeling cosmic blues with his 'Bird last night:

    roe,
    did you make those guitars?
i really like the firebird, and that lap steel with p-90's is really cool..i can almost hear it.
sadly, handmade guitars are out of reach for now,but i continue to dream....

Some cool 'birds up there! Whose clone is that and where can I get one? BTW, wanna hear some great strat tones? Anything by Ronnie Earl, but my fave is 'Guitar Virtuoso Live in Europe' (think that's the title, but it's at least very close). Awesome CD! AC

'Bird's don't suck! There's mine above. Fast becoming my #1 guitar.

I completely understand where you're coming from - I'm sick to death of my Strat. I've been on a quest to find a 'signature tone' for myself for about two years now and I can't for the life of me find it in a Strat anymore - it was my #1 for almost 17 years. Like you said - I'm just plain out of ideas on that guitar...

Get the 'bird - I love the minis in my '78 LP Deluxe, they're a sound all their own (and now a big part of my tone). Might help you find a new voice - like that Jazzmaster did. Tone inspires me in a BIG way - I can't play something that doesn't give me goosebumps when I plug in.

    That's what they're like on a normal sized guy[1] :D

    1) If you consider 5'9" and 195lbs "normal".

I've seen Alvin several times now, both 'electric' and solo acoustic. No matter - either way it's a real treat. Here's a link to my brief show review on BaM:

No, sorry. It's made in Finland. I'd love to try one as I don't like the new firebirds I've tried.
