LV in Denver gave my Fender Bassman 20 a looking over, added a bias trim pot, soul control, and blackfaced the phase inverter. Amp sounds great and his work is top notch. Lord Valve knows his stuff.

He’s a legend! Been a while since I’ve stopped by his shop for some tubes, but I’m grateful for his knowledge!

His shop is closed but he works out of his home (I think). Willie is a bit edgy on political views but so am I and he was respectful with me. The actual work was beautiful and he was straight-up about what was need and not needed. He could of sold me power tubes and an expensive cap-can replacement but he said mine tested out perfectly.

I've always had great experiences with Lord Valve dating way back. Great guy. Very knowledgeable. I had forgot about him as well. Glad to see he's still around and doing his thing.

I used to follow Lord Valve's posts on some ancient board in the past, he is a trip, and although his political views are not mainstream, he has a great sense of humor. Had some conversations with him at one point, he was always entertaining to talk to. He was a keyboard player, also was Derek Trucks' amp tech at one period (maybe still is). He is the one that got Weber to make the 10" Pyle speaker clones for Trucks, at that time they were only available from him, later he allowed Weber to sell them direct. Definitely a character.

I seem to remember buying TAD 6L6 tubes from him before they were called TAD, (if that makes any sense) If memory serves me right they were the same tube with no labels that he painstakingly matched and sold exclusively.

I used to order all my tubes from him, I figured he had closed up shop. He's an absolutely legend.

Years ago I had an amp with an issue that I couldn't figure out. The volume was pulsing at higher output levels. I called Lord Valve for some insight. He listened to me describe the symptoms, took a brief moment to ponder the situation, and this conversation took place:

LV: Yeah, the amp sounds broken alright. Do you have any pets?
Me: No, but my neighbor does.
LV: What's he got? A cat or a dog?
    Me: A cat.
LV: Ok great. Do you have a bass cabinet?
    Me: Yes.
LV: Does it have a tweeter in it?
    Me: Yes.
LV: Ok, here's what you're going to do. You get the amp, and plug it into the bass cabinet. You make sure the tweeter is on. You get the cat and put it in front of the cabinet. You turn the volume up until you reproduce that problem. Then, you watch the cat. If that cat runs away from the cabinet or starts freaking out, you call me back and I'll walk you through things more.
Me: Ha! So...you think the amp has a high frequency oscillation?
LV: That's what I'm thinking, yes.
Me: You're brilliant, I'll check it out, thanks!

And he was right. The NFB loop circuit had a bad component that was affecting the NFB and lowering the stability of the amp. I replaced the resistor, the NFB loop worked correctly, and the problem went away.

I've heard about this elusive cat for years. How does one contact him? Does he have a website?

Willie has been my tube amp guy for over 20 years. Dude knows his stuff. Glad to hear hes still going. I stopped by his shop when he was closing down and he said he was calling it a career. He was pissed. I would be too if my rent got tripled.

Guess he changed his mind though. That's a good thing. Hes a bonafide tube amp wizard.
