Bought a new one for a 1X12 cab. Both my 2X12 and 4X12 have G12T-75's so this is a new experience for me.

Very first impressions compared to the G12T-75's

    1) brighter
    2) more breakup at low volume
    3) more complex
    4) a bit fizzy/fuzzy

I'm pumping music through it 24/7 to break it in. I bet it will sound wild and wooly in a band situation.

I loved this speaker fo rthe clean tone but found it to be too bright fo rlead playing. In all fairness it could have been the amp but I ended up selling the amp and speaker so I guess I'll never really know.

I've heard good things about the Gold but never had a chance to try one. I do like my alternative I have, Fane 12-30(early AXA) and a Jensen Neo. Being both are 100 watters it seems they pair up nice and the Fane just sounds too sweet to my ears. More of a gind speaker but still nice clean too.

Let us know how it sounds after break in. :)

Give it time to break in. I have one of the first two that came out and they are amazing for both cleans and OD, and they combine well with others too.

I just finished a session using it with my Vox and all I can say is I was obviously missing something before. The complexity of the sound is amazing. I'd never played alnico blues before so this is really my first experience with the alnico Celestions. OMG - what an amazing difference.

Bought a Gold and sold it...
Simply too bright for my tastes.
Probably would be a great match though with a deeper
speaker like a Hellatone in a 2-12 cab.

Did you break it in? It's not a bright speaker when broken in - it's very balanced with a sweet high end - with the right amp, of course.

I play an AVRI Strat through a '67 Deluxe Reverb. That's what I call a bright setup. The Celestion Gold is anything but bright in my amp.

If anything the CG has too much bass in the Avatar cab. That's the only complaint I have. It sounds WAY warmer than the Weber 12F150 that I used to have in the DR. I'm thinking of puting it in the DR because it might be the bigger box of the Avatar that's making it too boomy.

The highs are very smooth with no harshness. That's the problem I was trying to solve when I bought it and it did the trick.

Can anyone compare the Gold to a V30? I am using a V30 for my Bad Cat and Budda and I'm wondering what a gold would sound like.

i got the gold to mix with my celestion g12 heritage speaker..... im going to get another gold to replace the heritage speaker! it is that great! just clarity, bass, mids, high end, it just sings to me through my ac30!

just make sure you break them in, can take a while because they are made of stronger material to handle the 50watts.
