No such thing as best. You'll learn that here. It's all about what YOU think sounds best to your ears and how it works with your rig. What type of tones are you trying to get out of an overdrive?

Im looking toward more of a blues&rock. nothing metal though

depends on what you're looking for. if you're interested in a tubescreamer type pedal, i highly rec the boss sd-1. built like a tank, and sounds wonderful. it has a unique tone given that it has a different clipping that typical tubescreamer type pedals, which use symmetrical clipping. the sd-1 uses asymmetrical clipping.

there are literally hundreds of options, but given that this pedal only costs about 30 or $40, i highly rec it. it's a classic. it's on my board and i have quite a bit of expensive gear. no need to spend a lot of money if you don't have, too , though.

Lovepedal E got one years ago and never looked back,but the OD market is so swamped now there are tons of good options.

Prepare to get about 1 thousand different opinions!!
Might as well chuck mine in:
I'm currently in love with my Rothwell Switchblade, does pretty high gain with a lot of bottom end but is dead quiet and cleans up well, also with the gain down does fantastic classic rock.
A cheaper option is the MXR Distortion III which has a fair bit of mid-range colouration, but that actually is an advantage when playing live as it cuts through a band mix, you get heard!

Get a Vox AC15HTVH and a Blue or two and you won't need an OD pedal.

Basically it comes down to what your budget will allow.
Conservative look into the Danelectro CTO-1 or CO-2
One of the more popular is the Skreddy Screwdriver.(expensive compared to the Dano)
Another nice OD is the Boss BD-2

Barber Small Fry

A good two pedal setup that is pretty cheap used:

Boss BD-2 and MXR Distortion III.

Use the BD-2 for low gain the Distortion III for medium gain and run the BD-2 into the Distortion III for higher gain.

It's getting ridiculous with so many options. A good bit of my playing gets recorded and honestly there is often not a great deal of difference with similar pedals. FWIW I've settled on the Jetter Jetdrive now. I still think the Fulltone FD2 that I used years ago was a good pedal. I've had good results with Barber and the BoR also.

alot of good ones out there. fulltone has good stuff, i like lovepedal's kanji's, music electronix, the tim, mi audio, mjm--there are alot. check out tonetronix's website or pedals plus--they give good expalnations of the pedals

Do you use your guitar volume knob to go from clean to scream or just
jump up and down on your pedal switches? If you need amp-like response and
actually USE your guitar volume knob I love my Fulltone OCD version 3 running on
18 volts. I usually use the "HP" setting but LP works nice too.

Wow, no search mention yet? I'd recommend using it in this case.

Personally, I'm currently a fan of MI Audio stuff but there's so many options.
