when I grew up guitar players were never rich people --

a more innocent time ... when a grossly over priced guitar would have been
considered NOT COOL! actually the guitar might be cool - but if you bought it
you would not be cool ... get it?

Maybe people like playing the necks on these? :JAM

Har har har, seriously, these do have great necks. The reliced bodies I could live without. Makes me wonder, could Fender make a new line, new body but reliced neck?

    That's true and I agree.

Having said that this is one way overpriced example.
I don't care who built it.

you would think that for over $6000 guitar, they could have gotten the backcover right damn, every body complains about the gibsons, and their using that damn template so all the relics look alike, part of the charm was the individuality, but fender is saving the work with the template.

really its a very stupid looking guitar IMO

If they're gonna take that much finish off, why don't they just seal the body and leave it like that? Same with the neck. Maybe finish just the front of the headstock where the logo is. Very very silly. I don't mind relics, but that is just silly.

the new body wood if sealed would never darken to look like a real relic, which suprises me, naptha and dye would darken the wood, and they could seal it then.

I think all the "custom shop" and "master built" terms they (and not just Fender) are coming up with are just marketing gimmicks to pull more cash from the consumer. Buy what you want but damn....to me its just plain stupid!

I'll spend a good buck on getting what I want and maybe more than a lot of people would but there is a limit.

Looks JUST like natural play wear, if you play in WASP - and that's only because one of them wears an angle grinder!

Seriously though, i look at guitars like this and think - if that was a real vintage guitar, how would that wear have come about?

Although then again, Rory Gallagher's actual strat was more worn out than this. Either way though, no need to go this far IMO.

Just curious - how do they perform quality control on the finish? Fender Custom Shop, Masterbuilt - they have pretty high standards. How could they distinguish this from a blemished 2nd?

    Just askin....

I think it looks magic! I couldn't afford $20k for a real one, but if I scraped the barrel hard enough I might just make $6k for one of these.

For $6k though, I'd probably try to get a used Cunneto or whatever which is likely to appreciate more than this one.

Yeah I was gonna say something like that. Look how cool the Cunettos looked. Now they look even cooler. Fender is embarassing themselves by calling it a masterbuilt.

You know, it's probably a super sweet playing/sounding guitar, but so f'ugly. Finish doesn't look old, just looks like a new guitar that lost a fight with a sander.

"For Heaven's sake please make them stop!!!"

You mean asking prices of $7000? or to prevend you buying one...

and we in Europe did get the impression that the USA is in a financial crisis?!
if you would ask Fender Marketing it seems not...

I read that Gallagher's Strat had been stolen and left in a ditch and that this was the main cause for the finish wearing off the way that it did.

IMHO, someone must get the Dremmel tool off little Jason Smith's hands. Send him to time out.
I do believe my 4 year old would have done a more realistic and tasteful Relic job and all for an ice cream cone. These clowns want $6k for it, Lord...... :NUTS

    I'm with ya, Joe

Smith is too plain of a name, it's an alias. I think Fender hired Jason Vorhees to do this work. In that case, he did a pretty good job considering.
