If you could go back in time and give your younger self some guitar / music advice, what would it be?

Seriously, I would tell myself you can never learn too much theory.

How about: if you want to get paid, learn drums, have rehearsal space, and have a large vehicle that can carry the whole band and all the gear

Get out of your comfort zone and play/listen to other styles to broaden your ear.

Spend less time trying to be the best guitar soloist and instead write songs and develop my voice.

Buy that Dumble, buy those 'bursts. You can't buy tone, but you'll be able to buy a whole lot of lessons once you flip them to those boomers 30 years down the road.

Listen more, play less!

Forget modes, don't bother. Chords are where it's at.

Understand chord progressions, guide tones (3rd's & 7th's), and chordal playing.

Learn songs, not techniques.

Become an expert rhythm guitar player if you want to earn a living as a musician.




*edit: Also I'd say, skip the strat and buy the tele ;-)
