What did you like them for? Can you be more specific please? I'm particularly interested in the voicing (how does it sit in a mix?) and pick attack response.
The one I had was darker and growlier and my friends pedal had a much brighter sound. Both cut threw really well. And both were excellent in their own way. DnF is a mix of the best 66' Vox tonebender and 67' Fuzz Face. So its sort of a swiss army knife pedal, but a really good one. If you haven't played DAMs before, they kind of have a spirit/attitude of their own. And not everyone likes em. But those that do usually love em.
I’m going to chime in WAY late on this. The DnF is my favorite fuzz. I bought mine in 2012 I think and it’s grown on me more and more with time. Mine sounds to me like a refined Tonebender more so than a Fuzz Face. It cuts through really well and works with both singlecoils and humbuckers. For me, it has just enough spit to it to give a vintage sound without being too over the top. The low end is tighter than most vintage style fuzzes, it doesn’t mush out as much (but it’s still definitely a vintage style fuzz) and it has enough mids to cut through a mix. It also isn’t as picky about impedance. I can run a boost before or after it without it getting angry. My best description is a hybrid vintage fuzz that leans more towards Tonebender but fixes issues associated with those.
Oddly enough, I´ve owned both, but as I´ve had a gazillion fuzzes since I had the DAM, I don´t remember anything about it! I do remember really loving the Foxrox though, and it was on my board for a long time. And incidentally I almost bought one again last week. But damn, I don´t remember what the Drag n´ Fly was like, at all!
