X-Load LB-2 Reactive Load Box @ 8ohms
How interesting!!! Let the games begin.
The Suhr RL is also $399, and actually made in the US. So I'll stick with that.
Where's the announcement? See nothing on the fractal site. My recollection was that the plan was for the load box to configure it's load to correspond to the load the cab in a particular IR would present to the amp (maybe I'm making that up), and if they got that much tech into a box priced the same as the Suhr box, color me impressed. If it's simply an alternative load box that emulates a cab different from the cab the Suhr box emulates, color me pleased to see more options, but probably still another closed back Celestion loaded 4x12 variant which is no more intriguing than the Suhr box to me.
What I find interesting about the Fractal is the attenuator connection diagram in the manual shows the device in parallel with the speaker.
More great stuff on the market = more great options for us!
Answering my own question, here is the link: https://forum.fractalaudio.com/thre...e-load-box-now-available.135444/#post-1602512

So it doesent have any internal cab simulations itself, rather you hook it up to an axefx to do so?
Seems a little odd, I mean the blurb says it’s for “the players who refuse to use modelling”, (but they have an axe fx handy?)
Well, you could also hook it up to a Mooer RADAR if all you need is cab sim...
Yeah, it just seems strange to not include that feature in the unit itself. I’m picturing a tone purist using their boutique tube amp, into a fractal load box...into a Mooer.
Go read the "blurb" again.
Well, there are alternative IR loaders in middle ground between the Mooer and The Axe Fx. Aside from the UAD box, are there any load boxes that include anything other than terrible analog cab sims?
Boring. Wake me up when they've got an actual Torpedo Live/OX competitor.
You are not thinking about this properly. You simply buy an Axe 3 to go with it. See? Cheap and easy!
Interesting with this unit is that the response of the load your amp will see is selectable between "UK" and "US"
From the manual:
VOICING — A tube amp interacts differently with different types of speakers. The voicing switch of the LB-2 changes the resonance of its load to simulate this. The “UK” position simulates a classic British guitar speaker. The “US” position lowers the resonance frequency to replicate the experience of playing through a classic American guitar speaker.
I get why Suhr would make this box to use with the amps he makes. I see why Fryette would make this box to use with the amps he makes.
But why would someone who doesn't make amps make this box?
More importantly, why would a consumer buy a load box (for their tube nice amp) that is made by a company that has never made amps?
Thank God for streamlined solutions!
"The idea is that you use this with any of our products that have cab modeling (Axe-Fx, AX-8, Cab-Lab). Some people refuse to use modelers so this is a product for them."
Seems a little paradoxical y'know? The hypothetical guy who refuses to use amp modellers but owns an axefx.
I guess studios would have both, but that seems like a limited market.
Cab lab is a plugin that can be run without Axe Fx, no?
