Hey Cliff...would you share which of the III effects are too processor-intensive to be ported to the FM3?

Inquiring minds want to know, although I'm sure you have a quadrillion PMs and direct questions to deal with at the moment.....

Can't figure out if the mains power is a bummer or a blessing. I mean, if the thing drinks up 2Ah or something, obviously a blessing. Will definitely have to be thoughtful about how you incorporate it in a board with other stuff given how much stuff is gonna be plugging into the back.

If anyone is curious the thought process was this:
    1. FM3 alone for rehearsals, small gigs.
    2. FM3 plus FC6/12 for larger gigs.
    3. Axe-Fx III plus FC6/12 for MSG.

Since the FC6/12 are "thin clients" you can exchange them with the Axe-Fx III and FM3 without having to do any programming.

In my mind, every show is an MSG show. ;)

If it does like on the full Axe-fx 3, it will behave perfectly fine. If it's like the AX8, won't be great, but at least it makes sense.

"Hi Sweetwater rep? Yeah, its me, the guy that's been buying all these small devices and nano-sized boards lately. What i need now is an 8 space rack with drawers to hold all of these things..."

I wonder if that means the same # of effects as the ax8 or if you'll hit the DSP ceiling quicker with the newer models.

I've never used a fractal product, but the DSP limit concerns me. I tend to make large patches and switch them like a pedal board instead of just a core tone per patch. I may only have a few models active... But lots in the patch. It's easier for improv that way where I may not know what I need to switch on next.

I need to spend some time with one of these and see how to best set it up for that use. I'm sure it's got plenty of HP... But I have a knack for finding the unsupported edge cases on modeling gear.

Does the ax8 editor work without attached hw? Can you build patches and find out when you hit the dsp limit?

With just 3 footswitches, would this really signal EOL for the AX8? Yes this has more processing power from what I can tell but while I'd love the smaller footprint, only 3 footswitches isn't an acceptable trade-off for many of us unless there is some very creative footswitching options available that I'm missing.

Adding a FC6 would address a lot of that.

I'm pretty sure Fractal dropped the standalone (non-hardware connected) editor functionality years ago. So that would be a no to your final question.

But there has to be a compromise somewhere. Even before Cliff made his announcement, I knew there was no possible way this was Axe-FX III equivalent in processing power for less than half the price. That would just be insane.

You will undoubtedly hit DSP walls here, but Fractal has amp channels AND a built-in drive function on every amp block now. That's a lot freed up right there.

Assuming same dimensions as FC6 -- 9"x11" footprint. With all rear connectivity...but no need for a large power supply underneath...hmmm...not a PT nano or metro...

Not much unless they come out with something that has more switches.
