First, I loved the stock EJ pick ups, they were really nice, but, I wanted a more agressive bridge pick up without going all the way to a hot rail.

I bought the Fralin SP43 and let me tell you, it rocks big time.

Pinch harmonics jump out. It's pretty cool.

The only downside is that there is a drop off between the Fralin and the stock EJ's. It's not that the tone of the EJ's are not good, they just lack the power of the fralin, it's too much of a drop off.

What Fralin neck pick up should I get? The neck SP43? Or is there another that's pretty good???

    Thanks

Can you adjust the pickup heights to balance your outputs?

That was my gripe with the EJ pups also. Great tone, but not enough output. You should check out Rio Grande fot the middle/neck (Muy Grande or Half Breed).

Fralin Blues, maybe a 5% overwind but they are probably perfect stock.

My perfect setup is very similar, Fralin Blues in the neck and middle, Harmonic Design S90 at the bridge blender pot set up and a volume kit.

Or you could just ask Lindy, he'd know.

I've got an SP43 in the bridge, and with adjustments, blends very well with the Fat 50s neck & middle. No difference in volume when switching between positions.

I have the fralin blues special with the sp43, and it is a very balanced set. That would be the way to go.

Thanks for the replies... I will definately try to raise the other two pups first to see if that helps.
Didn't even think about talking to Lindy. He helped me choose the SP43 on the phone, great guy.

    Hey codeorama:

How does the Fralin SP43 compare tonally to the stock EJ bridge pickup??? Does it have more bass and smoother highs??? How was the midrange affected? Thanks ahead of time---I've got an EJ that I would like to beef up a bit.

Personally I'd buy another guitar for the hotter pups. I think the EJ is just perfect. It's blasphemy to change anything about that guitar.......blasphemy I say!!!!!! :BITCH

P.S. I love Fralins. Lindy makes the best.:AOK
