You just reserve the download at this point. When it's released on 7/29, it'll download to your computer or device and you can install it, or not, whenever you wish. I'm in.

I got the message yesterday too but I remember you had to erase the old OS to install the new.
With Win 10 you get like an upgrade on the OS without needing to clean the old one?

Yes, but you're going to want a copy of the old OS just in case.

I'm going all in on my laptop. I'll keep the desktop W7 until things are all running well.

I'm excited for it. Ive finally figured out 8.1 on my laptop so I'm up for another challenge.
I love it on my windows phone though.

A big potential problem is driver compatibility. Many older Windows Vista and 7 era laptops use an Intel video device that's not supported in Windows 8 and probably won't be supported in 10. Network drivers are another common problem area.

I don't want to get a Windows headache, so I'll just leave the work PC alone...

I'm one of the few people in the world that absolutely LOVES W8.1. I think I'll keep 8.1 on my laptop for the foreseeable future and see how the user feedback goes.

I'll run it on the MPB in boot camp mode.miust for fun. Nothing will work on it for months, but it will be fun to see how they horked the user interface again. 95% of businesses still run Win7.'this likely won't change that.

Windows 7 has been very good to me and I'm not going to rush into anything. However, the download is free and I'm going to take them up on it.

Especially since many of them were just pulled kicking and screaming off of Windows XP a year or so ago.

I went into W8 kicking and screaming, but a simple W7 skin fixed that. Like I said, I don't want to get a headache at work, so I'll leave well enough alone...

I have two computers, so I'll upgrade one and wait on the other.

If I were stuck with Windows 8, I would go for it since it can't get any worse. Since I am happily running Windows 7 on all my machines, I'll just sit back and watch the melee.

[Although... They tend to get it right every other version, so... Nah. At least waiting for SP1.]

Lol... so 20 years down the road, Windows is basically turning into Linux... well, except for the open source thing... but lol.

Make a system image before you do it! PS: I agree with Linux Mint. I use Mint 17.1 Cinnamon for my main OS and have Windows 7 Pro virtualized in case I need t go back to the stone age ha ha
