OOOPS duh me[sorry Paul]-forgot the link before HERE IT IS::FREEDOM

This was up a few years back-maybe 2 or 3-& today I was lettin' Paul Priest hear it-he knew the tune and whipped off the vocals-pretty much like the original-Excellent job!!!! and a great surprise too!

The idea here [for me...] was to copy all the parts note for note[except the basic drum groove which was near impossible to do on computer-however I threw a few Mich fills in for a laugh].

For those of you who heard it years ago feel free to roll yer eyes.

    Have a nice endweek.

Yes indeed.... A discussion today with John about guitar led to Hendrix. (Imagine that!) Apparently John had recorded Freedom a while ago, and when I heard it today for the first time, I couldn't help but sing over it. While I didn't spend the kind of time I would like to have spent, John thought it was post-worthy. In my opinion, this is an amazing piece of work, an honest homage to a great player, and a very respectable piece of guitar slinging by another great player. Mr. Findlay gets nothing but the utmost respect from me for his original work, and this cover tune is equally laudable. No eye-rolling from this guy.

i just played it on keys but it is a real ol' P-bass sample-still not as groovy as

I was joking, but afterwards I started hearing it as an old time bluegrass
vibe and it kind of works in my head, I should mention that I have had an
entire bottle of wine at this point.........anyways great job again both of

You'd be hard-pressed to find as big a Hendrix afficionado (and snob, Stevie Ray who?)) as me, and doggone I'm impressed. This is my favorite Hendrix material. Let's have some details. What was the rig?

As for Mitch, he was one of a kind. His work, especially on the expansive live material, rivals Elvin J in terms of how he lifts the soloists into the stratosphere.

    Thanks Mike

Well-i wouldnt call it a rig!!! ha--just a SV Vibrolux-with crap Eminence blue speaks- a Blues Driver[hardly use it anymore]
The pick-ups were your basic Kinmans[not using now]-the mic was a 500$ AKG.

i hate to use a well worn cliche-but this one-for the most part was all in the hands--moving the picking posistion had alot to do with -and obviously
    rolling off tone & vol.

Hmm-i may have to finsh up Angel-i put a Huge twist on it!!

    thanks jf

Ah, the Vibrolux. I own an early 70s one myself. I use a Two rock for live gigs, but will pull out the Vibro every so often in the studio and I'm always amazed at how good it sounds. You captured so much of Henrix's touch, right down to the vibrato and often novel intonation. I'm totally knocked out. I'll look forward to Angel.

Funny, I was just thinking about this clip just last week.

Even 2 yrs later it's still awesome. Nice touch with the vocals.

Can't thank John enough for sending me some drum ideas when I first joined TGP.
