sweet -- hey -- can you talk about how this kind of thing came together? Give me a sense of how long you worked on it both pre-production (songwriting - arrangement etc) and then how you put it together in the studio? I thought it was fantastic -- and I particularly love that one cadence that you end on the chordal section (example 1:43) - that whole section just has some nice changes through-out. Just a perfect movement with a great vibe.

Hey! Thanks, glad to hear that :)

This song came together from some grooves that the drummer and percussion player came up with together and parts/ideas that just the drummer and I developed. Basically they would come up with a drum groove and I would jam with them (no bass) live and we'd record that or I would jam on a part that the drummer sent me (just drums), record that and listen back after a while and there would be parts that made some kind of melodic or harmonic sense so I'd develop them further and that's how it all came about. At some point I had the whole picture of the tune in my head, how I wanted it to flow and develop. From there it was just about trying stuff and filling in the blanks. The percussion player explained some claves to me and how to work with them and showed me some music based on claves, that's where a bit of the "Spanish" flavor came from I guess. It didn't take that long to finish the song since all the ideas were already in the jams so it was a question of finding a way to connect them and find a nice flow. Probably a week or two of trying things out and polishing them.

In the studio we just recorded it live and went with a take that felt best to everyone.

If you like this wait till you hear some other cuts we have coming on our new album ;-)

Thanks again for your kind words and interest!

I did enjoy. Quite mathematical. Although I don't think you
should make the poor keyboardist play the percussion parts...LOL!
    Just kidding.

Awesome. Very original. Almost sounds like a few John McLaughlin voicings in there. Love the bass work, too.
