Was talking with a friend of mine yesterday (pro level Dumble owner) and he made the following comment and I damn near fell out of my chair laughing...

"Playing a solid state amp is like having sex with a cadaver".

OMG

Oh BTW, I have no ill feelings about SS amps in general. I still own and use a Peavey Nashville 400 for pedal steel. The right amp for the job. Owned this thing for at least 20 years now.

I saw some guy named walter 'wolfman' washington at the maple leaf in New Orleans sunday through a cheap crate ss amp. He sounded great and so did his band.

SS amps are an under-represented minority group who deserve some respect for their abilities, too. Comments like these only serve to undermine the groups efforts to take a meaningful place alongside the working tube amps of today.

If you must judge an amp by its electronic background you should, at least, give it a chance to perform the duties in the appointed task. Maybe even take one to your next gig. Affirmative action for the electronically advanced, you might say.

Bias, negative or positive, is a powerful force.

I beleive al amps have there place. I am fond of pearce amps and the little roland cube 60 is a fantastic box of tones for the price.

hmmm... I think my Pritchard Amp must then be a sci-fi porno pleasurebot. Your average current production real tubes just can't compete.

They won't work after an EMP (electro magnetic pulse) event either! A time when you might really want to play a swansong...

But tube amps will, of course. That is if the power grid is still in place...

SS parts built on Galium Arsenide or Silicon or Sapphire wafers will survive an EMP, but haven't seen these used in too many musical applications only in military applications. :).

Mark my words; one day, a Solid State Amp will be President! :dude
