But, yeah, his sound really is in his vibrato, his attack, and his choice of notes.

You'd want a dimed Marshall Plexi and an hard clipping overdrive for EJ lead. :) The fuzz goes into the rhythm amp. ;)

Is the Jetter Blue discontinued? Did the Gold Shift replace it?

Well, he does have a signature fuzz face coming out from Dunlop, right? Otherwise, a silicon fuzz face should fit the bill. Like the Fulltone '70 perhaps.

    Which of his sounds?
Fuzz face for fuzz, Lake Butler tube driver for violin lead and Ibanez tube screamer for the same just a little tamer.
You need a fully dimed good Plexi amp for all three sounds.

I'm with Coolhand. Fulltone 70 is pretty darn close. You can do Hendrix Band of Gypsys, too. But you may try a BC183 Sun Face as Yr Blues recommends or the EJ Fuzz Face from Dunlop that's coming soon.

It depends on which EJ fuzz tone your after, personally I prefer his fuzz leads from the AVM days, then he used the fuzz face into a Dumble Steel String Singer, switching fairly often between that and the Tube Driver+Marshall.

Now it's a fuzz face into his rhythm Marshall, a much rounder and mellow tone.

But the combo of the VL Giggity and the new EJ Fuzz Face sounds super promising:

Have in mind that his most used lead tone is using the Tube Driver/Echoplex/Marshall.
Tube Driver into a Vox will not sound very EJ... :)

Fulltone '70, Dunlop Hendrix Fuzzface , or the new Dunlop Eric Johnson . My current favorite is the Hendrix Fuzzface into my '74 Marshall 50w 1987 head. Nails that sound all day long. I can't wait to snag one of the EJ fuzzes when they are released.

For me the silicon version of the MJM London Fuzz is the ultimate EJ fuzztone. If you listen to his live Alien Love Child cd. And play a silicon LF. You will be shocked!

I still can't comment on the not yet released signature Dunlop version, unfortunately.

Usually, but not all the time. See 'Alien Love Child'.

Yes, and sort of.... the Gold Shift (which I haven't played) supposedly has the Blue's sound on one side of the 'shift' switch.
