ignore the lead at the start, the main and outro solos obviously use delay, but something is causing a slight warbling and shimmerring on the lead lines, i dont think its chorus. What do you think he is using with delay to get that sound ?

My guess is offset pitch but probably not from a pedal. All the guitars on that album have a polished in the mix to the max sound IIRC. So i'll guess it's rack gear and pitch shift.

    It's probably delay modulation.

I think it's just the tape warble on the repeats from the Echoplex.

In his '84 interview he said he used an old Maestro Echoplex, volume swells under the vocal and that he used Pearly for the solo.

I remember reading that interview. I believe superglue was also involved in some capacity.

easiest way to emulate this would be with a slight trem.

Univibe would be better but for live I'd go trem.

Yeah he said he super glued the repeat knob. He likes to say "turn it up to patent pending" a lot too.

I would take anything BG says about his gear with a grain of salt. He's so hush hush about it.

Just take Pearly Gates an Exhoplex and a bottle of Super Glue, turn it all up to patent pending and you're all set. Satisfaction guaranteed. :)

I don't really hear tremolo in there and no real throb like a univibe. Maybe phaser? It almost sounds like a half-cocked wah for the midrangey tone. My first thought was it sounded a lot like a Rockman with the chorus and delay on, but the echo is too good of course.

    That is a sick tone.

Doesn't sound like anything crazy to me. Just the modulation from the machine. Pretty straight-forward tone for him, especially from this era.
