I'm checking out a couple of Legacys and one has a 3 bolt neck while the other 4...

Any reason to steer toward or away from either?

No reason to avoid it... I have a 3-bolt S-500 that's totally stable and heavenly to play. Word has it that the 3-bolts are just as stable as 4 bolts, but because people were shy about 3 bolts (psychologically speaking) G&L switched to the 4 bolt design to help with sales.

Perfectly stated. Pay no attention to 3 bolt or 4; concentrate on how each one sounds and plays.

3 bolt also has a micro tilt adjustment and are obviously older. I have one of each.
